This blog has been set up to follow my Channel Swim training and solo swim attempt in July 2008. During my swim updates will be posted so you can follow my progress as the adventure unfolds!!!!
In Summer 2005 I was sat at dinner with a group of friends in Turkey at the end of a swimtrek holiday and I suggested that we all swam a channel relay. From that original mad idea I organised a Channel relay swim with four friends and we swam as a 5 person relay team(Laura Salisbury, Simon Slade, Ed Williams, Lynne Smith and myself)called "Just Keep on swimming" we made it it in 10.28 hours. Lynne and Ed have since gone on to swim solo successfully well done guys!!! It was an amazing experience and many happy days were spent in Dover swimming and chatting to other Channel swimmers who were amazingly helpful and full of advice and inspiration (Thankyou everyone!!!!) I was also priviledged enough to crew for a solo swimmer Birgit Kempf which was a truly inspirational experience watching her swim her 16.24 hour swim. Following last years Dover experience I made the decision to swim solo myself. I was due to swim solo this year and trained hard and in March swam a 12 hour swim to see if I could as well as to raise money for swimathon and then in April I did my 6 hour cold water (15 / 16 degrees)qualifying swim in Malta.Unfortunatly during these swims I injured my shoulder and had to postpone my big swim. Thankfully now after lots of physio from a great physio and coaching team (thanks Ana, Pam, Jack and Simon) I am now swimming pain free again Yipee!!!!!!!!Anyhow I am now booked to swim on the 25th - 30th July 2008 tide in position 2 with Dave Whyte as my pilot. Update - I swam the Channel in 19 hours 46 minutes on 26th July 2008 Thanks to everyone who supported me along the way! To date I have raised £2515 for North of England Children's Cancer Research- thankyou to everyone who sponsored me.
